Autochthonous microalgae and cyanobacteria biorefineries for animal nutraceutical feed and cosmeceutical product development
AlgaeFusion aims to develop a biorefinery based on microalgae and cyanobacteria native to the Azores, with the goal of creating nutraceutical products for animal feed and innovative cosmeceuticals. The project involves a multidisciplinary consortium, aligned with regional and European strategies for a sustainable bioeconomy.

OBJECTIVES

O1) Select valuable nutraceutical strains with concentrations of amino acids, vitamins and PUFAs, or bioactivities of interest for animal feed production in a biorefinery approach
O2) Select reported strains with bioactive extracts in zebrafish larvae using green solvent extracts suitable for cosmeceuticals application in a biorefinery approach

O3) Develop a nutraceutical microalgae-enriched feed TRL7 product, suitable for industrial application

O4) Produce stable cosmeceutical products TRL6, enriched with bioactive extracts of microalgae/cyanobacteria

O5) Identify bioactive compound for extract valorization and patent generation
